Raising Awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day - Free Reflexology in Lutterworth
On Tuesday 10th September 2019 (World Suicide Prevention Day) we are offering 3 reflexology treatments - completely free of charge. The appointments will be allocated to the first 3 people who call to book and will be delivered at our treatment room in Lutterworth.
Reflexology helps relieve tension, stress and has been shown to significantly reduce anxiety. We are all becoming aware of the need to remove discrimination and stigma surrounding mental health issues. In male dominated working environments, such as construction, suicide rates are notoriously high. Sometimes talking about mental health can be difficult, but if you know someone who you feel may benefit from this complementary treatment, please share this post with them.
Reflexology is for everyone, guys - give it a go!
To enquire or book, please call Mandy on 01455 203603

Asbestos Awareness
Asbestos is gaining much attention for the HSE at the moment and this is set to continue as the European Commission (EC) has ruled that the UK, has not fully implemented an EC directive concerning protection of the workers from the risks of exposure to asbestos.
The HSE has launched a consultation, but subject to any consultation the result of complying with the EC's ruling is likely to be a creation of work labelled "Notifiable Non-licensed Work".
This will mean that all work on certain materials containing asbestos will need to be notified to the HSE before it begins, that medical examinations of those undertaking the work have to be carried out every three years, and records of work exposures to asbestos have to be kept by the employer.
Should you require any further information, asbestos awareness training or an asbestos survey then do not hesitate to contact us.
Our next asbestos awareness training is on 19th March 2014 9.30am - 12.30pm.
Call the training department on 01455 203602 to reserve your place, only £50.00 + VAT per person.
Changes to Riddor
New reporting arrangements under RIDDOR - Date of Effect : 12th September 2011
From 12th September 2011, there will be new arrangements for notifying the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of work-related injuries and incidents, which have to be reported uder the Reporting of Injuries,Diseases and Dangerous Ocurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR). Reports will have to be submitted online via a suite of seven forms, available on the HSE website. It will be no longer possible for employers to report incidents by email, post or fax.
There is an exception. The HSE recognises that when a traumatic event occurs, there is a need for personal interaction. For this reason, in the case of fatal and major injuries and incidents, employers can choose to report online or by telephone to the HSE Incident Contact Centre (on 0845 300 9923)
The new arrangements are an attempt by the HSE to make the process of reporting injuries and incidents under RIDDOR quicker and easier. Employers must ensure that those responsible for health and safety have access to online facilities and are familiar with the RIDDOR section of the HSE website. According to the HSE, the revised online reporting forms will be interactive, intuitive and easy for people to use. An online help facility will also be provided.
International Workers' Memorial Day
International Workers' Memorial Day (IWMD) is intended to remember all those killed at or by work, and to strengthen our resolve to reduce risks and protect people from injury in the workplace.
The origins of International Workers Memorial Day
International Workers' Memorial Day originated in Canada. 28 April was chosen for International Workers Memorial Day as it is the anniversary of the Occupational Health and Safety Act in the USA and also commemorates the day that 28 people were killed in a construction incident in Connecticut. Since 1989 trade unions in the USA, UK, Asia, Europe and Africa have organised events on and around 28 April. IWMD was adopted by the Scottish TUC in 1993, followed by the TUC in 1999.
Events are held on the day to commemorate those who have died whilst at work. The intention is to focus and reflect on workplace illness, injury and death and their causes. It is hoped that the events will appeal to everyone.
Take a moment to think about those who have lost their lives through their work and think about what you can do to protect yourself, your workers and your colleagues.
Browns Health & Fire Safety on Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR)
Following the package of changes to Britain’s health and safety system announced this week by Work and Pensions Minister, Chris Grayling, the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) is now open to the public.
OSHCR is a register of consultants who can offer general advice to UK businesses that want extra support from a trusted source to help them manage health and safety risks – and will make it easy to find a local consultant with relevant industry and topic expertise.
Businesses will be able to search the database for consultants according to keyword(s), county, industry or topic, free of charge. More than 1,600 highly qualified consultants in the UK have signed up to the online register, and before they can join, must prove they can meet strict eligibility criteria. Each must belong to a professional body, have a degree-level qualification, at least two years' experience and have demonstrated a commitment to continuing their professional development.
Chris Grayling, the Employment Minister, said:
"We have launched an official Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register for those health and safety practitioners who are properly accredited to one of the professional bodies in the industry. Those who do not have the requisite expertise and experience will be excluded from the register, making it easier for employers to access reliable, reputable advice."
OSHCR has been established by a number of professional bodies representing general safety and occupational health consultants, with support from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in response to the Government-commissioned Common Sense Common Safety report into Britain's health and safety system, which called for improved competence in health and safety advice.
